I use Posca pens to mark my queens - they work fine and don't smell, so queens go straight back in without delay. (I believe that when people used to use Humbrol model paint, it stank and you had to wait a while or the queens could get attacked?).

There is, what looks like, a similar pen - the Edding 750 Paint Marker. Has anyone used it?

A couple of years ago I tried a TOMA pen on the recommendation of another experienced beekeeper. Supposedly the paint wouldn’t rub off as easily as the water based POSCA. I marked 3 new, strongly laying queens. Every one of them had “disappeared” by the next inspection! I guess the girls didn’t like the (oil based) paint smell!
Since then I’ve gone back to POSCA.
