Blocked the feeder from the brood box

Caught a cast swarm recently and put them in a poly nuc. Decided to feed them after a few days with a top feeder - all fine. After an inspection last Saturday put the feeder back on BUT with the plastic "crown board" in place between the feeder and the brood box. A whole host of bees trapped in the feeder and no food for the bees in the brood box. We learn by our mistakes - hopefully.

Very true Chris. And often quite upsetting seeing a host of dead bees.

At the risk of sounding blase, which I am not, it is worth remembering at such times that for every day the queen lays a thousand eggs, a few weeks later a similar number of adult bees will daily perish from natural causes, but we do not see them.

Just to keep in perspective.
