I'm sure the likes of Maisemore have a giant machine that they drop a tree into one end and a shower of frame parts falls out of the other, but what if we couldn't get frames for some reason.
I made some dn1s to see if I could get round a potential shortage.Image
I wanted them for foundationlesss so that cut out a lot of unnecessary machining from the outset.
The timber came from an old pallet which I cleaned up with 'apibioxal' before slicing up the batch.
Once the tooling was set up it was surprisingly quick and the assembly of the parts was no more involved than making up shop bought one's.

The pallet yielded 23 complete frames plus a lot of spare tops.
I didn't do it for financial experiment but a small batch comes in at around 5p each not including plastic spacers.

They are just as good as anything I've bought.
I wouldn't volunteer to do it again but it does demonstrate a little self sufficiency should WW3 break out
