Has anyone any experience of the gas powered sublimator, VARROJET. Would be easier that electric powered machines if it works well.

No experience yet but do have one on order, I got mine on Aliexpress for a bit less then £23.
It should be here by the month's end and for the cheap price was worth a punt to use with my 5 or 6 colonies.

Not having seen one, just checked it out on a popular video hosting platform..

Noticed on the one I was looking at it seemed to produce quite a lot of free vapour and the user wasn't using any form of breathing apparatus. I had understood you needed a decent grade respirator to avoid getting it in your lungs.

Am I out of date on the thinking on that?

No you aren't Patrick, a good mask is still needed as even a whiff isn't very pleasant for any short period.

Aha, makes sense. The sublimox pan inside a hive is one thing but the open pot outside the hive quite another. Another example of don’t always copy what you see someone doing on vids.

They should make it clearer that the kit needs respirator PPE.

Rather like chainsaws, the cost of the chainsaw itself is only a part of it. No shortage of vids of people using them without PPE either.

Even with a Sublimox I would think it would be prudent to stoll wear a mask near to the hive as vapours will still be escaping from the hive somewhere.
