According to info on the ' BKF', a positive siting of V.v somewhere along the South Coast has been reported and investigations are under way.

Let's hope not. That second nest at fowey was found and destroyed 3 days ago. That's all that's the nbu news site.

Incursions are on the rise albeit tiny in numbers, all UK beeks need to be setting up monitoring traps. If not now a project for all to get spring traps ready to use with a sweet bait.

The possibility is probably quite high that an undetected nest is lurking somewhere in the Southern UK.

The invasion, provenance and diversity of Vespa velutina Lepeletier (Hymenoptera: Vespidae) in Great Britain

Interesting information in this article.

The microsatellite data also suggested
that the Tetbury nest was likely formed by a single queen that had mated with a single drone.
As queens in France typically mate with between 2.4–4.1 drones [24], this suggests that the
Tetbury queen may have mated in an area of low drone density, perhaps from the advancing
invasion front in continental Europe or from within Great Britain.

A recent update on BKF suggests that It appears this report was a bit more inland , apparently AH nest has been located and destroyed by NBU in Hampshire/ Winchester area.

The source on there I believe has an inside track on events and might be an AHAT volunteer, they have said an announcement is imminent.
Apparently the BKF source says a landowner reported them as they were feeding on plums and they noticed they looked a bit different.

We are in a position now where every one should be deploying traps with liquid or meat bait to do the upmost to prevent next years incursions which can and probably will be on the increase.

It will be interesting to see if any of this years queens are directly related to any of those nests from last year. I hope not.

It appears two AH nest siting's in Hampshire one just N/E of Winchester , NBU apparently have traced and destroyed the nest another confirmed siting in coastal town of Lymington/SouthCoast, NBU field agents being kept busy at the mo.

They are indeed being kept busy. It looks like AH are here to stay.
