Don't believe all you read is my honest answer..bees swarm for a multitude of reasons and if IPM is used properly the varroa theory can be flung out of the window..

Overcrowding is very much a reason for swarming, but then you can have a double brood with 6 supers full to the brim with bees that doesn't swarm. I am lead to believe that if mites become a big problem in a colony then it may abscond which is not really the same thing as swarming. As said, a severe mite problem is more likely to kill a colony than it swarm.
